How to view page source on iPhone and iPad

Updated 2026-10-22T00:00:00.000Z

Quick answer
Safari on iPhone can’t show page source. Type viewhtmlonline.com/ in front of the address in Safari’s address bar and tap Go to see the HTML.

Try it now

Safari on iPhone and iPad has no menu item for “View Source”, and neither do Chrome or Firefox on iOS. You can still see any page’s HTML in a few seconds.

1. Put viewhtmlonline.com/ in front of the address

  1. Open the page in Safari.
  2. Tap the address bar, move to the start of the address and type viewhtmlonline.com/ in front of it. For example viewhtmlonline.com/temp.cool.
  3. Tap Go. You’ll see the page’s HTML with line numbers and colours.

You can also copy the link, open viewhtmlonline.com and paste it into the box.

2. Use the Share sheet with a Shortcut

If you look at source a lot, make a Shortcut that opens the current page on viewhtmlonline:

  1. Open the Shortcuts app and create a new shortcut.
  2. Turn on Show in Share Sheet and set it to receive URLs.
  3. Add the action URL with https://viewhtmlonline.com/view?url= and add Shortcut Input after it.
  4. Add Open URLs.

Now tap Share in Safari and pick your shortcut.

3. Use Safari Web Inspector with a Mac

For live debugging, connect the iPhone to a Mac with a cable. On the iPhone, turn on Settings › Apps › Safari › Advanced › Web Inspector. On the Mac, open Safari and pick your iPhone from the Develop menu. This shows the live page, including changes made by scripts.

What you’ll see

viewhtmlonline shows the HTML exactly as the server sent it, plus a report with the page title, description, headings, share preview, the tools the site is built with, and whether search and AI bots may read it.

Questions people ask

Can I view source on iPhone without an app?

Yes. Add viewhtmlonline.com/ in front of any address in Safari, or paste the link on viewhtmlonline.com. Nothing to install.

Does this work on iPad too?

Yes. Safari on iPad works the same way as on iPhone, and so does viewhtmlonline.

Why does the source look different from what Safari shows?

You see the HTML the server sends. Scripts can change the page after it loads, and those changes are not in the source.
